Small mask Aire Abelam, Papua New Guinea Wood, pigments H. 15 cm A small face with the soft lines characteristic of the style, the high-relief nose-bone tinted black, like the sober headdress. This type of miniature mask was used to adorn basketry or simple fiber bags called bilums, worn by the men, the oldest members of the community using them to carry their betel mortar.
