[MANCINI] - Lot 19

[MANCINI] Mémoires de Madame la Duchesse de Mazarin. A Cologne, chez Pierre du Marteau, sd (circa 1675), in-12 bound in full tan calf, smooth spine titled throughout, spine cap worn, some traces of moisture and foxing. Provenance: Bibliothèque du R.P. Bonaventure alias J. van Bruaene, curé de Bellem (1817). According to Barbier, these Mémoires de Madame La Duchesse de Mazarin were written by Hortense Mancini herself and falsely attributed to Mme Du Rhut and the abbé de Saint-Réal; Lever gives the abbé de Saint-Réal as the author, arguing that this text appears constantly in the Oeuvres complètes de Saint-Réal from the Hague edition of 1722 onwards. Querard, "Supercheries littéraires", II, 712, gives the work to H. Mancini and rejects the attribution to the abbé de Saint-Réal, reported by Brunet, III, 1604.
