Victor VASARELY (1906-1997) - Lot 85
Victor VASARELY (1906-1997) Szepa, 1987 Acrylic on canvas. Signed lower right Titled, dated and signed on the back of the canvas Size: 100 x 100 cm Provenance: Private collection, Spain A certificate of authenticity from the Vasarely Foundation will be given to the buyer. A major figure in geometric abstraction and a leader of Op Art, Victor Vasarely developed a formal vocabulary based on the science of perception in the 1950s. At the crossroads of art, mathematics and architecture, his work aims to establish a universal plastic language, based on the rigor of forms and the interaction of colors. Szepa, created in 1987, belongs to the artist's last period. It features a rigorously modular construction, where chromatic contrasts produce an intense optical vibration, renewing the effects of depth and movement on a flat surface.
