ÉON (Charles de Beaumont, known as the Chevalier d'Éon or Ch - Lot 54
ÉON (Charles de Beaumont, known as the Chevalier d'Éon or Chevalière d'Éon). Autograph letter addressed from Cheltenham, a town in the United Kingdom near Gloucester, where the Chevalière wrote her letter (autograph first draft) of one quarto page, on September 20, 1795, and sent it to General Charles O'Hara, lieutenant-general of the British army whom Napoleon himself took prisoner at the battle of Toulon in November 1794 and who was exchanged in August 1795 for the Comte de Rochambeau, just a few months before La Chevalière congratulated him in her letter on his return to England and offered him a few bills for his next assault at Cheltenham's Theatre Royal, confiding in her financial problems in the process: "Mlle D'éon, no longer able as she used to be to attend the Battles that nourished her, is now content, in order not to starve, to make public assaults of arms, while waiting for better weather".
