[Letters written by the Chevalier d'Eon on behalf of his fri - Lot 58
[Letters written by the Chevalier d'Eon on behalf of his friend the fencer Domenico Angelo] - Original autograph minute of a letter on behalf of his fencing friend Domenico Angelo, addressed to His Majesty the King of England, to be Master of Arms to His Royal Highness Monseigneur the Prince of Wales, having already been that of the King's brother. "Domenico Angelo (...) dares to take the liberty of begging Your Majesty to cast his eyes upon him to be the Master-at-Arms of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales". One folio page. - Original autograph minute of a letter, also in the name of his friend Angelo, thanking the authors of the Encyclopédie for choosing his Traité d'Escrime "from among the greatest number of good ancient and modern works in this genre, to place it entirely in their immortal Dictionary". Two pages in-4. - Original autograph minute by the Chevalier d'Eon, of a Projet d'une Académie militaire pour la Cavalerie et les Dragons that his friend the fencer had drafted. Project addressed to the English Minister of War, in which Angelo, who had a large riding school in King Square, proposes converting his establishment into a Military Academy "where English Cavalry will in time become superior to that of Europe". Six folio pages. - "De l'exercice de la Courses des Têtes". Angelo's treatise dictated by the Chevalière d'Eon to her copyist secretary Ledoux. This two-rider equestrian exercise had been created as early as 1745 by the famous fencer, who had mentioned it at the time to his Master of Equitation M. de La Guérinière, who had a renowned riding school in London where he had introduced the exercise. Four folio pages. Attached is a second copy of this treatise by the same copyist, preceded by a handwritten note in the Chevalière d'Eon's hand "De l'exercice de la Course des Têtes par M. Angelo Ecuyer de son Manège in Carliste Street Soho à Londres et Maître d'armes de la Famille Roiale". Four 1/2 in-folio pages, with gnawed lower margin without loss of text.
