[Madame Robinson and the Chevalière d'ÉON] - Lot 65
[Madame Robinson and the Chevalière d'ÉON] Set of 4 autograph letters from Madame Robinson, daughter of Lord Major-General Robert Clive, Governor and Commanding General of the English troops in the East Indies, and 2 letters copied in the Chevalière's hand. Madame Robinson lived at Denston Hall in Suffolk, where she died in early 1796. This correspondence shows the friendship between these two characters. The letters were addressed to La Chevalière in 1793 and 1794, and are accompanied by a letter and bill from Mrs. Robinson's brother, R. Clive. The set comprises 12 in-4 pages, often addressed, and is housed in a later folder, since it is titled "Lettres et Billets de feu Madame Robinson et de son frère le Major Clive" in La Chevalière's handwriting.
