Pierre MESSIE / Antoine du VERDIER. - Lot 148
A Lyon, chez Honorat, 1580-1577, 2 parts in an in-8 volume bound in full later muted basane.
Large vignettes on title.
The first edition of Pierre Messie's lessons, translated by Gruget, appeared in 1552. The second work, Les Leçons d'Antoine Verdier, is here in its original edition. In the same year, the publisher published these lessons by Antoine Verdier as a sequel to the lessons by Pierre Messie, which he reprinted the same year. This rare edition is omitted by Brunet (who only mentions a 1584 edition) and Graesse. Baudrier (catalog des impressions lyonnaises du XVIe) states that copies bearing Honorat's name are extremely rare. Absent from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
661pp and 5ff table / title, 8ffnc and 422pp, 10ffnc and printed flyleaf, lacking medallion with 9th ffnc. Small worm work in fine.
