[MANUSCRIT - Astronomy] - Lot 32
[MANUSCRIT - Astronomy] Theory of the Astronomical Tables, Sun and Moon. Manuscript written at the beginning of the 18th century, in very legible brown ink, with a few corrections, on 145 double-sided leaves, the last 39 of which, paginated 1 to 79, include tables of measurements. In folio, bound in full basane, with ribbed spine and title-piece, with missing leather at the spine ends and dull corners. Bound with the La Rochefoucauld coat of arms in the center of the boards. Interesting manuscript, based on Cassini's table calculations, used to determine the position of the sun and moon for a given place, date and time, to calculate eclipses, the angle of the ecliptic and meridian, and the position of the main fixed stars at the beginning of 1709. Jean-Dominique Cassini (1625-1712) was the first director of the Paris Observatory. From 1694, he worked with his son Jacques Cassini (1677-1756). This manuscript may be an early version of Jacques Cassini's famous astronomical tables, and may have been written by Jacques-Eugène d'Allonville, chevalier de Louville (1671-1732) or by Joseph-Nicolas Delisle (1688-1768), also an astronomer at the Académie des Sciences in Paris.
