[Magazine] URSS under construction. Monthly illustrated maga - Lot 54
[Magazine] URSS under construction. Monthly illustrated magazine. ORIGINAL French EDITION of this luxurious illustrated Soviet propaganda magazine. It was published in four languages: Russian, French, English and German, then in Spanish from 1938. L'URSS en construction was a monthly illustrated Soviet information and propaganda magazine published from 1930 to 1941 and in 1949. A total of 133 large-format magazines were published during this period. The first issue of the magazine was edited by the writer Maxim Gorky. The magazine was aimed primarily at a foreign audience. It promoted the construction of a new society in the USSR and, according to Mikhail Bode, aimed to create an idealized image of life in the Soviet Union among foreign readers. The magazine's artistic conception was in the style of constructivism: widespread use of photomontage, insert pages and the full range of photographic contrast. This avant-garde magazine gave pride of place to Soviet photography. Each issue was themed, offering readers a panorama of the country's industrial and agricultural successes. Deliberately short, the texts give pride of place to superb photographic images. Set of 21 scattered issues: n°1 of January 1930 (the first created, in two copies, one of which has the first three leaves damaged) and n°3, 4, 7-8, and 12 of 1930 - n°6, 9, 10 and 12 of 1931 - n°3 of 1932 (in 2 copies) - n°6 (printed in green) and 7 of 1935 - n°7 of 1936 - n°1, 2, 4 and 6 of 1937 (n°1 has the cover detached) as well as n°7-8 of 1931 in English and n°11 of 1931 also in English.
