FOND D'ATELIER FRANCOIS SZULMAN
Born in Paris in 1931 to a Jewish family of Eastern European origin, François Szulman discovered painting at an early age as a silent refuge from the turmoil of history. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, he built his career between tradition and freedom, influenced by the great names of French figurative art.
From the 1960s onwards, he exhibited regularly at the major Parisian art fairs - Indépendants, Automne, Comparaisons - and made his work known internationally, from New York to Tokyo, via Venice, Geneva and Tel-Aviv. A number of Parisian galleries devoted solo exhibitions to his work throughout his career, including Galerie Régis Langlois and Galerie Jacques Goupil.
His work can be found in public collections such as the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Lohamei Haghetaot Museum in Israel and the Holocaust Museum in Washington.
A painter of the everyday and the suspended moment, Szulman's work is sincere, joyful and deeply alive.
