Georges SIMENON (Liège 1903-1989), famous Belgian novelist, - Lot 98
Georges SIMENON (Liège 1903-1989), famous Belgian novelist, friend of Sven Nielsen, founder of Presses de la Cité, to whom he entrusted the publishing rights to all his books in 1945. Reunion of two long autograph cards signed by Georges Simenon, on his letterhead, one addressed on September 23, 1976 to his great friend and publisher Sven Nielsen, shortly before his death, testifying to their friendship, with stamped envelope, and the second, undated but sent after Sven's death to his wife, very touching: "As you know, I have transferred to your son the trust and friendship I had for Sven, and I hope that the Nielsen line, which is also yours, will continue to work successfully for a long time to come. Every time I write to Claude, I associate him with his father in my thoughts, and the letters I receive from Presses [de la Cité] are hardly different from the letters I used to receive... Thank you for thinking of Teresa, who was touched and knows all the Nielsen - Simenon books". Enclosed are two typed letters signed and addressed to Mrs. Sven Nielsen, one in February 1987 "when it comes to writing by hand, it's over for me as my handwriting has become illegible", and one in January 1989 "what memories we have in common in which our dear Sven has the greatest place. It's now up to you to take up the torch. I see that this is your intention too, since you are going to write the Presses de la Cité saga that will enthral thousands of readers if not more... I would be very touched and flattered if you would dedicate your book to me".
